Product types, units, HSN and GST
What Retail, Internal and Both mean, which units are available, and how the HSN code and GST rate reach the invoice.
Product types
| Type | Sold at checkout? | Consumed by services? |
|---|---|---|
| Retail Sale | Yes | No |
| Internal Use | No; backbar stock such as colour tubes and developer | Yes |
| Both | Yes | Yes |
Only retail and both-type products appear in the checkout picker. Internal products still count in stock, purchase orders and valuation.
Units
Pieces, Millilitres (ml), Litres (L), Grams (g), Kilograms (kg), Ounces (oz), Bottle, Tube, Sachet, Box, Pack, Pair and Set. Stock is counted in this unit, so choose the one you count on the shelf. Use Size / Weight for the pack size, for example 200ml.
HSN code and GST
Goods are taxed under an HSN code. The product form lists the common ones for a beauty and grooming business: shampoos and hair preparations, beauty and makeup preparations, perfumery, soaps, and salon textiles. Pick the Tax rate the business has set up (18% is the standard for cosmetics) and the matching HSN Code.
The invoice prints the tax split as CGST and SGST; with per-item tax columns on under Print Configuration the HSN code prints beside each product line.
